QUAY CELEBRATES 10th BIRTHDAY!
Partners and staff welcomed the worshipful Mayor of Poole, clients and friends on Friday evening to a lively celebration of its first 10 years of business, at the Custom House, Poole Quay.
Guests were treated to live music and refreshments, and the worshipful Mayor, Councillor Zena Dion, addressed the happy gathering. With 68 holiday letting properties under management offering a total of 278 bed spaces, the Mayor was interested to hear that Quay now brings more guests to Poole than the Thistle Hotel and two Hotel du Vins combined – a far cry from the firm’s beginnings in the dining room of partner, Helen Challis’s house! Helen praised Quay staff for all their hard work; “managing a hotel is one thing, managing one that is exploded in pieces all over town requires real organisation!” Over the peak summer period, Quay achieved 380 property change-overs in just 6 weeks, using its own, directly-employed workforce.
As Helen explained, “There are some people in Poole who grumble about second homes sitting empty for much of the year, giving nothing back to the community, and I understand that. So I am really proud of the fact that our clients’ properties are occupied on average for more than 70% of the year, by holiday guests who eat-out and spend money in Poole’s local restaurants, bars and shops.”
With more than 150 residential and serviced lettings, and over £9m of real estate being marketed for sale, Helen confirmed to guests that the estate agency arm, Quay Living, had also become a significant force in the local property market.
With further planned investment and the successful purchase of its Orchard Plaza premises just the day before, Helen said family-owned Quay was set to grow still further in the next 10 years.
