Helen Challis MARLA
Started her career with the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, before moving into property agency with London firm GL Hearn. She left to join start-up firm Burleigh Estates in 1996 before joining the property team of international wealth manager Stenham Plc in 1999. During that time, she was responsible for the active management of syndicated residential and commercial investments in and around London. Helen left to start a family in 2002, and the family moved to Poole in 2003. In 2006, Helen identified a gap in the local market for a high-quality holiday letting agency and started Quay Holidays in 2006. Quay Living, for sales and residential lettings in Poole, was established in 2010 and the two businesses have since grown to become a major force in the local property market. Helen enjoys her local roles as a director of the Poole Business Improvement District, a marketing team member of Poole Tourism, and a member of Poole Old Town Conservation Group
Duncan Challis BSc (Hons) MRICS
Started his career in estate agency in Harrogate, North Yorkshire whilst following a four year degree course in Urban Land Economics at Sheffield Hallam University. After graduation, he went on to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor in 1990. Work with two major London-based property companies followed before he established a new vehicle in 1996, successfully developing a portfolio of predominantly leisure and residential property. He sold out in 2008, and shortly after joined his wife Helen, building Quay Holidays and Quay Living in Poole. The family live in Poole Old Town.
Duncan is a trustee of local neighbourhood planning forum, Poole Quays Forum, and has been actively involved in the establishment of Poole and Lower Hamworthy’s first Neighbourhood Plan.
Residential Lettings Manager
Claire has worked in residential property ever since leaving school, first as property manager with a local firm, and then as lettings negotiator with a nationwide operator. Following a spell as customer relations manager for a new-build residential scheme in southern Spain, Claire worked with a south-coast multiple agency as Property Manager until the birth of her son in 2017. Following maternity leave, we were thrilled to offer Claire the role of Residential Lettings Manager at Quay, and she has quickly made herself invaluable, processing new lettings and renewals, assisting the sales team, and pushing the marketing of sales properties in our busy town centre offices.
Matt Rulten BA Hons
Service Team Manager
University in Manchester drew Matt from his Essex childhood home. An honours degree in Interior Design was put to good use during a period in high-street retail when Matt bought and renovated multiple residential properties. In 2009 Matt confirmed his love of all things property when he managed a residential letting agency in Greater Manchester. A move to the South Coast came in 2011, and Matt joined an established letting practice in Bournemouth, rising to become Branch Manager. Matt joined Quay in Spring 2018 and now coordinates Quay Holidays’ team of up to 40 cleaners and in-house maintenance staff, looking after its extensive portfolio of quality holiday homes.
Katie, who is AAT-qualified, joined Quay in 2016 from a substantial Bournemouth lettings agent, where she was Senior Lettings Account Coordinator for a 600-unit portfolio of residential properties. Prior to that she worked as Retail Operations Support at the head office of The Range in Plymouth and before that was a clerical administrator with Dorset County Council. Katie lives at Harbourside Park, and splits her leisure time between her two dogs, one cat and a very large horse!
Savannah studied Business and Administration at Bournemouth College before being apprenticed to a local Poole letting agent where she spent four years learning the property business. Savannah is great with systems, which comes in very handy in her role coordinating maintenance and repairs throughout Quay’s residential and holiday property portfolios.
